 2016 Preview 


       Hartselle completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Hartselle's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gardendale by a score of 38-14.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Hartselle has gone a combined 57-18. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hartselle has managed to compile a record of 194-100. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 6A and 47th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2007.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Robert Godsey who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 115-43 over the past thirteen seasons at Hartselle. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Godsey. Coach Godsey led Hartselle to a state championship in 2011.

       Coach Godsey's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 157-58 (73.0%). His 157 wins rank 16th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Godsey's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won five region championships.

       The Hartselle Tigers will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season.

       The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2005 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2016.

       The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Cullman on Friday, August 19 at J.P. Cain Stadium. Last year the Cullman Bearcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region eight. The Bearcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 48-14.

       Hartselle and Cullman have met a total of 102 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 51-47-4 record against the Bearcats. They last met in 2015 with Hartselle winning by a score of 14-13.
