 2016 Preview

Hanceville finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Hanceville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region five with a 3-3 region record.

The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1995 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Hanceville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 42.4 points a game.

Since 2010, Hanceville has gone a combined 35-28. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hanceville has managed to compile a record of 117-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 3A and 245th in the AHSAA.

Danny Miller retired in June after seven seasons at Hanceville. His teams finished with a combined record of 40-38 and 0-3 in the playoffs. He took over midway through the 2008 season.

The 2011 team went 10-0 in the regular season to register the first 10 win season for the school. His teams won region titles in 2011 and 2013.

Hanceville grad Craig Flanigan takes over the head coaching duties at the school this fall. He graduated from Hanceville in 1992.

Flanigan spent the past seven seasons at Hayden. The past four as offensive coordinator. He previously coached at Austin for two years and Walker for six seasons.

The Hanceville Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 3A but move from region five over to region six.

Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Hanceville missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2016.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Cold Springs on Friday, August 19 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Cold Springs Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 2A region six. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Sulligent by a score of 63-27.

Hanceville and Cold Springs have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 6-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2009 with Hanceville winning by a score of 32-0.
