2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Columbia finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Columbia just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region eight with a 2-5 region record. The Eagles have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016. Since 2010, the Columbia football program has struggled with a record of 16-44. Over the past 10 seasons, Columbia has not won much with a record of 31-69. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 6A and 341st in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2010. The Eagles are led by head coach Chris Hancock who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-14 over the past two seasons at Columbia. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hancock. Coach Hancock's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 12-28 (30.0%). The Columbia Eagles will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season. The Eagles move up in classification to Class 6A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Albertville on Friday, August 19 at McCord Field. Last year the Albertville Aggies finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 6A region seven. The Aggies lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Minor by a score of 37-35. Columbia and Albertville have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-5-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2015 with Albertville winning by a score of 35-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
