 2016 Preview 


       Blount completed the 2015 season with a 10-2 record. With their 7-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region one, the Leopards earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Blount reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Bessemer City by a score of 10-7.

       The 511 points scored by the Leopards last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring Blount offense ranked 9th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.6 points a game.

       Since 2010, Blount has gone a combined 47-21. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Blount has managed to compile a record of 183-104. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 6A and 61st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

       The Leopards are led by head coach Lev Holly who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-2 record in his first season at Blount. The Leopards saw improvement from a 7-4 record the season before coach Holly arrived. Under his direction the Leopards have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holly.

       Coach Holly's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 15-17 (46.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Holly's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Blount Leopards will play in Class 6A region one during the 2016 season.

       Blount enters the 2016 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Leopards Stadium.

       The Leopards should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Leopards have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2006 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Leopards open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Vigor on Friday, August 19 at Prichard Stadium. Last year the Vigor Wolves finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 5A region one. The Wolves lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Demopolis by a score of 28-17.

       Blount and Vigor have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Leopards have a 14-38-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2013 with Blount winning by a score of 40-13.

       Blount returns 6A All-State Senior quarterback Kadarius Toney. He was named to the second team last season.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
