 2016 Preview 


       Sylacauga completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region three, the Aggies earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Sylacauga's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to St. Pauls by a score of 42-17.

       Since 2010, Sylacauga has gone a combined 43-23. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sylacauga has managed to compile a record of 144-127. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A and 154th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007.

       The Aggies are led by head coach Matt Griffith who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 67-51 over the past eleven seasons at Sylacauga. Under his direction the Aggies have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griffith.

       Coach Griffith's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 76-82 (48.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Griffith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times .

       The Sylacauga Aggies will play in Class 5A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Aggies remain in 5A but move from region three over to region four.

       The Aggies will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season.

       The Aggies open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Chilton County on Friday, August 19 at Legion Stadium. Last year the Chilton County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class 6A region three. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Calera by a score of 26-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Sylacauga and Chilton County have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 28-14-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Chilton County winning by a score of 21-18.
