 2016 Preview 


       Springwood completed the 2015 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region two, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Springwood's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pickens Academy by a score of 41-31.

       Since 2010, Springwood has gone a combined 36-32. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AAA over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Springwood has managed to compile a record of 166-114. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AAA and 12th in the AISA.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Thomas Hill who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-18 over the past three seasons at Springwood. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hill.

       Coach Hill's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 15-18 (45.5%).

       The Springwood Wildcats will play in Class AAA region one during the 2016 season. The Wildcats move up in classification to Class AAA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Springwood will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       Region one will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against region opponent Kingwood Christian on Friday, August 26 at Ron Cox Field. Last year the Kingwood Christian Lions finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class AAA region two. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Monroe Academy by a score of 34-10.

       Springwood and Kingwood Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 3-3-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2007 with Kingwood Christian winning by a score of 10-7.
