 2016 Preview

McGill-Toolen completed the 2015 season with a 13-1 record. Last year McGill-Toolen captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 8-0 record. The Yellow Jackets reeled off four straight playoff wins to claim the Class 7A State Championship by defeating Spain Park at the Alabama Super Seven 14-12 in Auburn.

No team at McGill-Toolen ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2007. The Yellow Jackets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Ross saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 4-6 record in 2014.

The defense was very stingy last season as McGill-Toolen ranked 11th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.6 points a game.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, McGill-Toolen has gone a combined 58-16. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, McGill-Toolen has managed to compile a record of 174-113. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 7A and 83rd in the AHSAA.

The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Caleb Ross who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-7 over the past two seasons at McGill-Toolen. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Ross. Coach Ross led McGill-Toolen to a state championship in 2015.

Coach Ross' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 19-15 (55.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Ross' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time and won one region championship.

The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets will play in Class 7A region one during the 2016 season. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-47 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 7A and 68th in the AHSAA.

The Yellow Jackets enter the 2016 season riding a 9 game winning streak. They have also won 5 consecutive regular season games. McGill-Toolen has won 10 consecutive region games.

The Yellow Jackets enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region one and could very well be representing the South in the Class 7A Super Seven come December.

The Yellow Jackets will be in defense of the Class 7A state championship with a big bulls eye on their jerseys.

Marlon Williams returns at the wide receiver spot after catching 45 passes for 545 yards last year. Larry Rembert also returns after collecting 36 passes for 537 yards in 2015.

The Yellow Jackets open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Spanish Fort on Friday, August 19 at Lipscomb Park. Last year the Spanish Fort Toros finished with an overall record of 15-0 and in first place in Class 6A region one. The Toros won the Class 6A State Championship last season when they defeated Clay-Chalkville by a score of 31-28 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

McGill-Toolen and Spanish Fort have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 6-4-0 record against the Toros. They last met in 2007 with McGill-Toolen winning by a score of 57-7.
