 2016 Preview

Maplesville completed the 2015 season with a 13-1 record. Last year Maplesville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. The Red Devils reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 1A State Championship by defeating Cedar Bluff at the Alabama Super Seven 59-24 in Auburn.

The high-scoring Maplesville offense ranked 13th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.1 points a game.

The Red Devils defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 30th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 14.0 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 27-1 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Maplesville has gone a combined 76-6. Their 93.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Maplesville has gone a combined 248-72. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 5th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2004.

The Red Devils are led by head coach Brent Hubbert who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 129-23 over the past twelve seasons at Maplesville. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won eight region crowns with Coach Hubbert. Coach Hubbert has won two state championships at Maplesville, the last coming in 2015.

Coach Hubbert's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 146-38 (79.3%). His 146 wins rank 28th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hubbert's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won eight region championships.

Coach Hubbert needs four wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

The Maplesville Red Devils will play in Class 1A region three during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Red Devils remain in 1A but move from region four over to region three. The Red Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 42-44 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 1A and 211st in the AHSAA.

The Red Devils enter the 2016 season riding a 9 game winning streak. Maplesville has won 41 consecutive region games.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Maplesville has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region three and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 1A Super Seven come December. The Red Devils have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2003 and this year should be no exception.

The Red Devils have won 41 consecutive region games and will be favored to extend that streak this season.

The Red Devils open the 2016 season at home against region opponent Notasulga on Friday, September 2 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in first place in Class 1A region three. The Blue Devils lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Linden by a score of 26-14.

Maplesville and Notasulga have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 15-1-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2014 with Maplesville winning by a score of 42-22.

Maplesville returns 1A All-State Senior running back Terence Dunlap. He was named to the first team last season.
