 2016 Preview

Jeff Davis completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Jeff Davis finished seventh in Class 7A region two with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Volunteers improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2011. The Volunteers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Jeff Davis has gone a combined 22-40. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Jeff Davis has managed to compile a record of 137-126. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 7A and 163rd in the AHSAA.

The Volunteers are led by head coach Lee Carter who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-18 over the past three seasons at Jeff Davis. Under his direction the Volunteers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carter.

Coach Carter's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 13-18 (41.9%).

The Jeff Davis Volunteers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Volunteers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. Unfortunately, Jeff Davis finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

Quarterback Zarron Haney returns for his senior season after completing 105 of 182 passes for 1,547 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior last season.

The defense will be led by senior linebacker Alec Jackson who collected 7.5 sacks last season.

The Volunteers open the 2016 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Park Crossing on Thursday, August 18 at Alabama State. Last year the Park Crossing Thunderbirds finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in first place in Class 6A region two. The Thunderbirds lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Bessemer City by a score of 28-24.

Jeff Davis and Park Crossing have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Volunteers have a 0-3-0 record against the Thunderbirds. They last met in with

Jeff Davis returns 7A All-State Senior defensive lineman Alec Jackson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Volunteers also return Senior athlete Travez Bozeman. He was named to the second team. The Volunteers also return Senior defensive back Zyon Gilbert. He was named to the second team.
