 2016 Preview

Jackson completed the 2015 season with a 13-1 record. The Aggies cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Jackson captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Jackson made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good St. Pauls team by the score of 35-24.

The defense was very stingy last season as Jackson ranked 28th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.6 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Aggies have gone 24-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Jackson has gone a combined 70-9. Their 89.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson has managed to compile a record of 185-104. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 5A and 60th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007.

The Aggies are led by head coach Danny Powell who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 60-7 over the past five seasons at Jackson. Under his direction the Aggies have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Powell. Coach Powell led Jackson to a state championship in 2011.

Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 146-46 -1 (76.0%). His 146 wins rank 27th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Powell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won nine region championships. He has a 38-6 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Powell won five state championships prior to arriving at Jackson, the last coming in 2010 at Leroy.

Coach Powell needs four wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

The Jackson Aggies will play in Class 5A region one during the 2016 season.

The Aggies enter the 2016 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak. Jackson has won 10 consecutive region games.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Jackson has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Aggies should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Aggies are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Aggies have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Aggies open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Clarke County on Thursday, August 25 at Legion Field. Last year the Clarke County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 43-0.

Jackson and Clarke County have met a total of 106 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 68-31-7 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2015 with Jackson winning by a score of 35-0.

Jackson returns 5A All-State Senior defensive back Kendarian Handy. He was named to the first team last season.

College prospects include: Kendarian Handy-Holly (6-2, 200) safety,
