 2016 Preview

Hubbertville completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region six, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Hubbertville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hackleburg by a score of 49-34.

The Lions hope to get back closer to the 13-1 record in 2014.

Since 2010, Hubbertville has gone a combined 53-20. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hubbertville has managed to compile a record of 142-130. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A and 165th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.

The Lions are led by head coach Lamar Harris who is entering his thirty-ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 219-187 over the past thirty-eight seasons at Hubbertville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Harris.

Coach Harris' overall record as a head football coach in thirty-eight season stands at 219-187 (53.9%). His 219 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AHSAA.

The Hubbertville Lions will play in Class 1A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 1A but move from region six over to region five. The Lions have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 51-50 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 1A and 184th in the AHSAA.

The Lions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2016.

The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Meek on Friday, August 26 at Wiley Hollingsworth Stadium. Last year the Meek Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 1A region six. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 29-28.

Hubbertville and Meek have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Lions have a 28-13-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Hubbertville winning by a score of 10-6.

Hubbertville returns 1A All-State Senior athlete Dax Benton. He was named to the first team last season.
