 2016 Preview

Central completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region three, the Volunteers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Central's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Vigor by a score of 26-14.

No team at Central ever lost more games in a season than the five they lost last year.

Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only four seasons. They have managed a record of 34-14 over the past four years.

The Volunteers are led by head coach Kris Herron who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-12 over the past three seasons at Central. Under his direction the Volunteers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Herron.

Coach Herron's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 57-20 (74.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Herron's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

The Central Volunteers will play in Class 5A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Volunteers remain in 5A but move from region three over to region four. The Volunteers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-40 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 5A and 11th in the AHSAA.

The Volunteers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Volunteers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Munford on Friday, August 19 at Munford Stadium. Last year the Munford Lions finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in second place in Class 4A region three. The Lions lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 48-20.

Central and Munford have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Volunteers have a 8-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2015 with Central winning by a score of 21-7.
