 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region 7, the Redskins earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Oneonta's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Cordova by a score of 33-14.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Oneonta has gone a combined 62-18. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oneonta has gone a combined 206-94. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 4A and 34th in the AHSAA.

       The Redskins are led by head coach Don Jacobs who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 62-18 over the past six seasons at Oneonta. Under his direction the Redskins have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Jacobs.

       Coach Jacobs's overall record as a head football coach in nine seasons stands at 84-31 (73.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jacobs's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won four region championships.

      

      The Oneonta Redskins will play in Class 4A region 5 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Redskins remain in 4A but move from region 7 over to region 5.

       The Redskins have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 5 this season.

       The Redskins open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Guntersville on Friday, August 26 at Gilbreath Stadium. Last year the Guntersville Wildcats finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 5A region 7. The Wildcats lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 26-0.

       Oneonta and Guntersville have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Redskins have a 16-19-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2016 with Guntersville winning by a score of 23-0.

       Oneonta returns 4A All-State Senior offensive lineman Tyler Studdard. He was named to the first team last season.
