Last year Gordo captured the region 4 title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Gordo lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a strong Bayside Academy team by a score of 17-14. Over the past two seasons the Green Wave have gone 25-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Gordo has gone a combined 60-15. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Gordo has gone a combined 214-89. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 23rd in the AHSAA. The Green Wave are led by head coach Ryan Lolley who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 32-6 over the past three seasons at Gordo. Under his direction the Green Wave have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. The Green Wave should be considered one of the favorites for the Region 4 championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Green Wave open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Fayette County on Thursday, August 18 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Fayette County Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-5 and in second place in Class 4A region 5. The lost in the Class 4A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Leeds. They final score was 55-7 in the Super Six finals in Tuscaloosa. Gordo and Fayette County have met a total of 77 times on the football field. The Green Wave have a 33-42-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with Gordo winning by a score of 35-6. Gordo returns 3A All-State Junior athlete Collin Herring. He was named to the second team last season. The Green Wave also return Senior quarterback Koy Chapman.
