 2016 Preview 


       Last year Boaz finished seventh in Class 5A region 7 with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Boaz has gone a combined 29-35. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Boaz has managed to compile a record of 127-140. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A and 212nd in the AHSAA.

       The Pirates are led by head coach Eric Whaley who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-21 over the past three seasons at Boaz. Under his direction the Pirates have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Whaley.

       Coach Whaley's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 10-21 (32.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Whaley's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Pirates enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

      The Boaz Pirates will play in Class 5A region 7 during the 2016 season.

       This season, the Pirates will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in Region 7.

       The Pirates open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 26 at W.R. Sutton Memorial Stadium. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 4A region 7. The ended last season on a positive note with a win over Susan Moore by a score of 47-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Boaz and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 6-5-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 41-14.
